Southern Califonia Writers Conference | San Diego 2007 | My Take (Part Two)
Barry Eisler & Alexandra Sokoloff
I could spend this post talking about how much I admire Barry Eisler & Alexandra Sokoloff.
Or I could just gush like the fanboy I am about their work. I've read all of Barry's (except for the autographed copy of THE LAST ASSASSIN I bought at the conference), and was absolutely hooked on the lyricism of Alexandra's prose in her debut THE HARROWING (I haven't read it yet, but after devouring the first page-and-a-half, it'll be my next bedtime story for sure).
Or better yet, I could just refer you to their respective websites, and let you see for yourself how cool these two authors really are, and how much they have to offer writers, aspiring or otherwise:
OK, so that's a little lazy of me. But really, you need to get to know these two down-to-earth, passionate, helpful, and talented authors for yourself. They both go to a lot conferences, and they both tour, so there should be many opportunities to meet them.
Real quick, though, the best tip I got from Barry Eisler: "The what doesn't matter unless the reader cares about the who."
And from Alex: "Taking a risk to live your dreams is less risky than playing it safe."
Thank you both for such a rewarding experience at the conference.
